Some therapies do not cure the condition but they can however make it more manageable by reducing the pain and any other symptoms. Some therapies can prolong the patient's life. From the point of view of the patient and their family and friends, the therapies are considered vital and it is extremely distressing if the treatment is denied. From the perspective of the organisation offering the therapy is very expensive. When the money is short in supply, it doesn't make sense for the organisation to then offer an expensive treatment especially if the treatment does not cure the disease.
