He took his son to the mountain because God told him to. It was a test to see if Abraham would obey God. Once there, God told Abraham to kill Isaac. As Abraham was about to kill Isaac, God said "Stop, you have proven yourself to me"!

Wood, and it was carried by Isaac. How would he have lit it? He may have had a flint and iron (or flint and pyrite) fire striker, but I think it equally likely that he would have carried the fire in smoldering form, instead of starting a fire on the mountain.
It takes 20 years for a folded mountain to form
I believe it's not height but how it was formed. Take for example Mt. Everest and the surrounding mountains. This mountain is created as the two continental plated push up against each other. This cause the Earth that meets between these two plates to push up.

Abraham was Isaac's father.
Isacc
In Genesis we read Abraham was Isaac's father.
As god told Abraham to sacrifice his only son Isaac , an dhe nearly did it.
Isaac's two sons, Jacob and Esau, buried him.
Isaac was a small boy, as Abraham lifted Isaac and tied him up and put him on the wood , for the sacrifice.
Abraham of the High Mountain died in 406.

Genesis 22:1-2 (King James Version) "And it came to pass after these things, that God did attempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of." It does not say in the Bible which mountain Abraham took his son, Isaac, to, but I my guess is that it was a small mountain that did not have a name.
Mount Moriah where the temple stood and where Calvary was located, and where Abraham was to sacrifice Isaac is the same limestone mountain.
