Yes, some did come over as slaves. For roughly 200 years we did have slavery. (Interesting note is that even a few blacks had slaves in the south) They are still coming over in today's world and the end of slavery (In 1855 slavery ended with the 13th amendment) a year after the civil war ended) did not stop the progression of Africans from coming over. They still come over today for the rich opportunities we have to offer.
