They both wanted to be patron god of the city of Athens, and Athena won.They made a deal that they would each give one gift to the city of Athens.First was Poseidon.He gave the town a fountain.The Athenians were really happy with the water at first.Then they tasted it.It was salt water,so they couldn't drink it.Next was Athena.She gave the town of Athens a little olive tree.The Athenians were very satisfied.Olives had many great uses for things like medicine,cooking oil,and chocolate.The Athenians chose Athena and they named the city after her.Athens.Poseidon's a grudge holder,so they started arguing again.=(
