When she became pregnant with Renesmee, everyone panicked because her baby was a hybrid that would kill her, and said she needed to have an abortion. Bella refused and couldn't digest food, so she needed human blood. The baby fed on her blood and made Bella emaciated and even broke a few bones. The placenta detached and the baby tried to break out of Bella's uterus. After a cesarean section, Edward injected her heart with vampire venom and bit her neck, arms and legs. Bella remained unconscious for the next few days and woke up as a vampire.
