Why did Bob Lazar not go to prison after revealing secrets about Area 51?

There are several reasons. One would be that he's simply lying. Another is that if the government were to send Bob Lazar to prison for revealing facts about Area 51, they would be implying that they were true, and it's better for their interests to simply deny his claims. As well, Bob's stories weren't too detailed, they may consider them not to be too big of a threat to their interests.

And a third reason is he's "lying on purpose." It's called a cover story. If you were the commander of Nellis AFB and you had secret Mach 3 airplanes flying out of your base in an era when Mach 1 planes weren't that common, especially when the Mach 3 planes in question were very loud, you'd need a cover story. The most plausible cover story would involve little green men with technology earthlings couldn't imagine. So...he told Bob Lazar to get three guys and a case of Jim Beam and make up a good story about Martians invading Earth.

The government will probably never reveal the secrets unless absolutely necessary, there's a reason that the base has high security and the employees are sworn to secrecy, it's because they don't want the secrets out. I've heard rumors that after the Bob Lazar incident, that some of the projects are being moved to Utah. That's because Bob Lazar made Area 51 a place most people wanted to spy on. Moving it is a better way to not revealing the secrets.
