Opinions vary regarding the extent to which governments should participate in the economy. Some believe the government should play a large role, while others believe the role should be limited. Some even believe the government should not participate at all.
Because his wealth was self-made and he believed that people should have to work to be wealthy and not just be born into it. He also was a philanthropist and believed that wealthy people should give their money away rather than create a dynasty.
Carnegie believed that money should not be left to the families of decedents because he thought the money was better spent or given away during a lifetime. He also believed that the people who received the inheritance spent the money foolishly.
