They were "discovered" in 2002-2003 because the cds they were passing out to their students in their youth group(s) found its way to Steven Curtis Chapman(singer- Christian legend) and Mark Miller (Provident Label Group). All seven members of Casting Crowns are still currently all youth pastors.
Before Casting Crowns was discovered, the members whom are youth pastors/ youth workers formed a worship band called 'Casting Crowns', and made 2 independent CD's for the students in their church youth groups and lead worship at their churches. Also it should be noted that Mark Hall; while he was functioning as a youth pastor was originally in a band called New Life Rookies which recorded a CD that had several songs which after some rearrangement would eventually make the cut for Casting Crown's self titled debut album. New Life Rookies also recorded the song While You Were Sleeping which remained relatively unchanged and was included on Lifesong; Casting Crowns second release.
When Crowns was discovered by Christian Music legend, Steven Curtis Chapman and Mark Miller they thought that the church, the body of Christ, and the world needed to hear the messages that Casting Crowns has is their songs.
"One of the unique aspects of Mark's songs that has endeared so many people to the music of Casting Crowns is his ability to make you feel like you're listening to the heart of a good friend. He can ask you tough questions and you're not offended because you know he's Wrestling with the same questions. He can challenge you because you sense that he's simply inviting you into the place where he has been challenged. He can offer you encouragement, and you know it's coming from a place of hurt and hope that has been lived and not just imagined for the purpose of writing a song. You never feel like you're getting "preached at," and yet his songs contain some of the most profound sermons." Steven Curtis Chapman (Lifestories By Mark Hall, Foreword page X).
Casting Crowns started as just a worship band, they were discovered when one of their CD's that they made for the students in their church youth groups found its way to Christian music legend, Steven Curtis Chapman and Mark Miller.
Steven and Mark Miller thought that the church, the body of Christ, and the world needed to hear the messages that Casting Crowns has is their songs.
Casting Crowns first formed as a band in 1999 as a student worship band at the church they were at, at that time.
Later, when members moved to another church, a member or two left. At the same time, new members joined the band (whom are still in the band today).
Shortly after their first CD came out in 2003.
