Two will become one fleshJesus did not institute the church. He came to mediate a new covenant and to call out people to become members of His body."In other generations this secret was not known ...namely that people of the nations should be joint members and fellow members of the body..' This 'body' was likened to a Temple that was being built into a house for God to inhabit by spirit.this temple was going to take a period of time to build. Jesus said 'destroy this temple and i will raise it up in three days' I believe Jesus was talking literally and metaphorically. then there is the time when the Bride has prepared herself and the bride comes down out of heaven dressed as a bride. She is never ready until like her Lord she has conquered . she has to walk the walk and Jesus did not build any buildings or set up any organizations. His kingdom was not of this world and neither is ours.If you want to talk about the 'net' we are generally caught in at the 'beginning, well that's another topic.

Answer:

He did this so that All that believe in Him will be the Church and the Bride of Christ.

The church is not something created, it is merely a reference to the believers.

He didn't himself - two of his disciples did. They went to Rome to spread Christianity and built churches for people to praise and worship God. The other 10 disciples did too, but in other parts of the world.

The Church as an Institution

Christ did not build the buildings (churches), but the institution (the Church), which He founded to spread his message.

(He founded it)

- Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

(to spread his message)

- Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

I would guess that Jesus wanted his disciples to be united in a group; instead of individually all factioned up into splinter groups.

The Apostle Paul mentioned the way it should be among Christs followers in 1 Cor 1:10: "Now I exhort YOU, brothers, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that YOU should all speak in agreement, and that there should not be divisions among YOU, but that YOU may be fitly united in the same mind and in the same line of thought."

Another reason: The good news that Christ brought to mankind about him setting up a Kingdom; this needed to be preached in all the inhabited earth. (Matt 24:14) In order to have this accomplished, he united his disciples and sent them out to preach; and to teach people; first to the Jewish people, then to all the nations. This needed to be a united effort.

Another reason: Jesus often talked about him being the shepherd, and his disciples being sheep. Sheep tend to be in a flock, instead of being individuals. Being separated from the flock could be damaging and dangerous for them. Wolves might come. Likewise with Christs disciples, being together in a group they could encourage and strengthen each other.

To express himself on earth. Christ is the head, and the church is his body.

(1Corinthians 12.12.) For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also [is] Christ.

Jesus didn't establish a church on earth.

The church - the body - of Christ is made up of all true believers since Jesus' death. The church the body of Christ is a spiritual entity not something here on earth.

Some religions claim they are the church started by Jesus but The Bible does not teach this.

The word for church, EKKLESIA, means called out, assembly. It is often called 'the body of Christ.' This 'one' church can be in many different places but it is truly one church - together. Jesus said:

Matthew 16:18New King James Version (NKJV)18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

In our lifetimes, God (no one else can) calls out a few - little flock - special people to learn the truths of the Bible and become zealous to do God's good works (see John 6:44, 65, Titus 2:11-14 and Ephesians 2:10).

Those who answer the call/invitation of God to become His 'royal priesthood' sealed with His Holy Spirit of Promise (see Ephesians 1:13), proclaim the praises of God and live a life of example for all to see - most will receive their own personal calling to make their decision during the Millennial Rule to come and the Judgment Process:

1 Peter 2:9-10New King James Version (NKJV)9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

Basically because he brought a new covenant. The Israelites had the old covenant, then Christ gave a new covenant so that everyone who follows him and obeys his teaching can be part of his family -- called the Church.
