· Believe it or not, the Roman's delay was an advantage! When the Romans didn't come to invade as expected, the Britons thought that it had been cancelled, like the Romans had done a couple of times before. This means that when the Romans did invade after some time, the Britons were not as prepared as they were when they expected the Romans.

All Roman leaders, emperors included, had to have military experience. This was not only a Roman tradition, but was expected. Claudius had none. Britain, which was largely pacified, gave Claudius the military credentials he needed.
