Because he could heal Alexi

He couldn't heal the tsarevitch, Alexei's hemophilia, but he could help stop the bleeding and pain at each occurrence, and predicted that by the age of 21, he would be relieved of the illness. Anna Vyrubova, the Tsarina's lady in waiting, writes in her memoirs that as Alexei grew older, the incidents of illness were farther apart and less severe, until he was killed at the age of 13, along with the rest of his family.

The royal family also liked Rasputin because he was a spiritual mentor to them. He prayed with them and encouraged them to have faith in hard times. Many biographers have written that he could often relieve the anxieties of people and they felt greatly comforted after talking with him.

He was not the evil man the nobility painted him as. They hated him because he was against joining World War i (he did not believe war was a solution), and because he was a proponent of equal rights for Jews and other severely oppressed minorities. Russia was a highly anti-Semitic society and even had organizations whose goal was to eradicate the Jewish population. The nobles feared that Rasputin would get the Tsar to upset their precious class system, based on oppression of others, so they spread rumors of drunken orgies and nasty deeds, to get the Tsar to kick out Rasputin. When that didn't work (because the Tsar knew they were lying when one report of an orgy was at a time and day when Rasputin was actually at the palace with the Tsar), the aristocracy killed him.

The Tsarina looked to Gregory Rasputin/Novy because her son was born with Hemophilia, a disease where the blood has no clotting factor and was incurable then, and he could die from a bump of bruise. This distressed Alexandra and by the time Alexi was 7, she was really paranoid. Then Nicholas got sick and a staret sent an icon and said that he would be where he was needed. 1 year later, Alexi was about to die and then he arrived from Siberia. He saved Alexi again and again, and Alexandra went slightly mad and he looked after her, until he was poisoned, shot and drowned.

Did rasputin use three fingers to make the sign of the cross?

How does rasputin look like?

Rasputin was a healer, a man of God and an equal rights activist. For nearly a century, Grigory Rasputin, spiritual advisor to Russia's last Tsar and Tsarina, has been unjustly maligned simply because history is written by the politically powerful and not by the common man. A new book, "Rasputin and The Jews", shows that Rasputin was discredited by a fanatically anti-Semitic Russian society, for advocating equal rights for the severely oppressed Jewish population, as well as for promoting peace in a pro-war era. Testimony by his friends and enemies, from all social strata, provides a picture of a spiritual man who hated bigotry, inequity and violence. He never harmed nor killed a soul. He forgave all those who tried to assassinate him and didn't respond to rumours and criticism because he felt it wasn't Christ-like.

Did Russia hate Nicholas II?

cosmeticNot really, the political changes of implementing representative government were only . He was still an absolute monarch, he had to put down revolts prior to the bolschevic revolution. But even more than Nicholas, the people of Russia hated Rasputin. The Russian people did like Nicholas the second. However they didn't like his German born wife Alexandra.

What were some of the modern batting stats for baseball player Paul Gregory in 1933?

In 1933, Paul Gregory played for the Chicago White Sox. On Base Percentage (OBP) is considered by many to be a better measure of a great hitter than the Batting Average. It is calculated with the formula (Hits + Walks + Hit by Pitch) / (At Bats + Walks + Hit by Pitch + Sacrifice Flies). In 1933, Paul Gregory had 35 at bats, 5 hits, 1 walk, and was hit by the pitch 0 times. Sacrifice flies weren't counted before 1954. That gives him an On Base Percentage of .167. Slugging Percentage (SLG) is a popular measure of a batter's power. It is calculated as (Total Bases) / (At Bats). Another way to look at it is (Singles + 2 x Doubles + 3 x Triples + 4 x Home Runs) / (At Bats). In 1933, Paul Gregory had 35 at bats, and hit 4 singles, 1 double, 0 triples, and 0 home runs, for a .171 slugging percentage. Being able to get on base and to hit for power are two of the most important offensive skills in baseball, so the On Base Percentage and Slugging Percentage are often added together. On-base plus slugging (OPS) is a sabermetric baseball statistic. The best hitters in Major League Baseball can achieve an OPS of .900 or higher. In 1933, Paul Gregory had a .167 On Base Percentage and a .171 Slugging Percentage for an OPS of .338. Runs Created (RC) is a baseball statistic invented by Bill James to estimate the number of runs a hitter contributes to his team. There are a number of formulas used to calculate it. One of the simplest is (On Base Percentage) × (Total Bases). In 1933, Paul Gregory had a .167 On Base Percentage and 6 Total Bases for 1.00 Runs Created.

Why is Catherine II of Russia called Catherine the Great?

She greatly expanded the frontiers of Russia- brought in foreign intelligence- including John Paul Jones, the USN officer, and well was well-thought-of as an Empire-expanding Czarina. She was also called Mother Russia and Mother of all Russian cities, sadly some had false fronts courtesy Major Potemkin- and some comrades in the Russian C.O.E. These were villages with false fronts or facades to make them look bigger when Cathy was in town.- hence the term Potemkin Villages- some grew up to be major cities such as Odessa, still the big Naval base in the Ukraine.
