They felt this was a good idea
Delaware supported the idea that representation should be equal among all the states. this is because Delaware was a small state. Therefore they would have less representation. They also supported the idea of slaves not counting as population. this is because the South had more slaves then them. So if slaves did count, Delaware would still have a less population. Delaware also believed that there should be 3 branches in the government, the executive (president), the legislative (the congress) and the judicial (the supreme court). they also believed that the executive should have limited control because then the executive can't have total control. also the believed that the legislative and the judicial branch should be monitored by the state government (p.s. for more info go to archives.gov and type in: delegates of the constitutional convention in the search box.)
He believed that the national legislature should have two houses. In the lower house , states should be represented based on their population. In the upper house, each state should have one vote, he believed that slaves should be counted equally with other people in determining a states representation in the national legislature, he believed that the executive should be elected by the national legislature
Montesquieu is best known as the originator of the concept of separation of powers between the three branches of government, the executive, judicial, and legislative, which forms the basis of the US Constitution. He was most often quoted by the founding fathers during the debate over the Constitution, with the exception of the Bible. The infamous forgery "The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion" was an almost word for word copy of a French play "Conversations in Hell Between Montesquieu and Machiavelli"
Of course, a nation should have both because a nation will not have freedom if it doesn't have the ability to govern. The ability to govern is to make freedom for the nation and to make a nation independent.

Thomas Hobbes believed in the concept of an absolute monarchy with a powerful king to maintain order and prevent chaos within a nation. In his work "Leviathan," he argued that a strong central authority was necessary to prevent a state of nature where life would be "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short."

Rufus King believed that there should only be one leader in the executive branch (he later ran for president). He also agreed with the Virginia Plan which stated that representation should be based on population.
Benjamin Franklin knew that the delegates didn't all agree with everything that was written in the Constitution. He didn't agree with everything either, but compromises had been made and he felt everyone should set aside the "my way is best" notion and sign the document.
