He considered many ways of killing, then he considered leaving (which he did, but came back days later.) Alice had had a vision that she and Edward would come to love her. He tried to deny it blah blah blah. He started to get to know her when he came back because he wanted to find out why he couldn't hear her thoughts (still taken by her scent which was one of the biggest reasons). Slowly but surely BAM!! Hit by the love train.
