The Medjay people of Nubia had a preference for the bow as a weapon and most were expert archers. Although the Nubian tribes also had spearmen and men armed with axes or war clubs, the bow was the major weapon in their armoury.
Nubian archers served as auxiliaries in the Egyptian armies and some Medjay Nubians were employed as a kind of armed police force.
