England wanted to acquire new land in North America because they wanted to claim and protect land in the "New World," seek religious freedom (The Puritans and Separatists, aka Pilgrims), profit from resources and trade, spread Christianity to Native Americans, provide a safe haven for people of all religions, seek political freedom and representative government, escape economic hard times, and start a society based on The Bible (Puritans)
