Answer:

God never said John was the revealer.

God says: "THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST, which God gave unto Him, to shew unto His servants things which must shortly come to pass..." (Rev.1:1).

Jesus, then: "...sent and signified it BY HIS ANGEL unto His servant John: WHO BARE RECORD OF THE WORD OF GOD, and OF THE TESTIMONY OF JESUS CHRIST, and OF ALL THE THINGS HE SAW." (Rev.1:1-2)

John revealed nothing. He only recorded what he heard and saw in the vision the angel of Christ revealed to him.

Neither John, nor any other man is able to reveal the things that must shortly come to pass. Only Jesus Christ is qualified to do that.

"...I (John) SAW in the right hand of Him that sat on the throne (the Father in heaven) a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals... Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book..." (Rev.5:1-4).

"...Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof." (verse 5)

Jesus' Father made Jesus the Revealer... not John.

God did not choose John. The Council of Nicea chose what books would be included in The Bible. And Revelations barely made it in by vote. And that's too bad. If it hadn't we wouldn't have kooky people today worried about the end of the world, 666 or even Hell. John was a recluse who lived in a cave and likely had mental problems.

Another Answer:

The Creator of Heaven and Earth who many people call God but whose name is YHVH knows the end from the beginning according to the Bible (Isaiah 46:11). He knows completely every man and woman on earth and chose the man known as John the Revelator to give history the Book of Revelations because he was the best man for the job at the time YHVH wanted it given to us. That book was included among the accepted Christian documents long before the Council of Nicea. It is believed by many to show what will happen when Jesus, the Messiah returns as it itself declares. Whether John the Revelator is the same man as John, the beloved apostle, is not known for sure.

Additional Information:

The premise of the question is wrong according to the Scripture. Jesus is the 'revealer' as His Father told Him to forewarn mankind. Jesus gave it to John, the last surviving Apostle (foretold to Peter in John 21:22-24) to bear witness:]

Revelation 1:1-2

New International Version (NIV)

Prologue

1 The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2 who testifies to everything he saw-that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

This writing was predestined to be included in the Canon of the New Testament.
