Simply because He rested on the 7th day after creating the physical universe for the first 6. Personally, I do not see God as needing rest so His resting more an example to follow.

Saturday for seventh-day Adventists is not a business day. It is the sabbath- a day of rest and remembrance of the 7th day created by God from resting after creating the earth however God did not need rest he created it for people and for building a relationship between people and God. It is often a day also associated with spending time with family.
