God chose the sons of Levi over the sons of Reuben because he didn't do what was necessary to make sure his father had an heir. He was supposed to produce an heir with his father's concubine but he didn't.

Was Abraham Levi's father?

No, not technically. Abraham's son was Isaac. Isaac had Jacob. Jacob had 12 sons including Levi. Abraham was literallyLevi's Great Grandfather, but can be termed Levi's 'father' in that he was the patriarchal head of the Israelite nation, with whom God made a covenant(Genesis 17:3-8).

What happened in the story of Levi?

I cannot remember any special stories regarding the third son of Israel (Jacob), Levi. Nevertheless, Levi, like Simeon was cursed by their father when Jacob was on his death bed, however; his curse became a blessing through his three sons, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari when they became servants in the temple of God. After that time, they were referred to as the Levites and the book of Leviticus was written to give direction to those of the priesthood.
