Catholic AnswerThe devil, was an angel at one time. And the angels, just like us, were given free will, because without free will, none of us could freely love God. Actually, without free will, we could not love anyone. To have free will is to have a choice whether to choose God or not, and the devil (the fallen angel, Lucifer) is the one that is giving us the "other" choice. God put us on earth for one reason and one reason only, to take our free will, and choose the Good, to choose Him, to love Him, and to follow His Will. The thing that you have to understand is that if God had a size (He doesn't, He is pure Spirit), but IF He had dimensions and size, then this ENTIRE universe, all the planets and sun would be less than a speck of dust in His eye. God, and His plans are so far beyond anything we are capable of understanding that to ask why God, in His INFINITE WISDOM does anything, and think we can come up with the answer is the height of arrogance and sin. Thus, we cannot fully understand why God does things the way that He does, but we trust Him and love Him, and know that this is the best way that He could possibly have done it.
