This is the account recorded at Habakkuk 2:1 "At my guardpost I will keep standing, And I will station myself on the rampart. I will keep watch to see what he will speak by means of me And what I will reply when I am reproved."
This was not a literal tower, but a spiritual tower.
Throughout history, mankind has utilized watchtowers with men who were stationed as "lookouts" to keep on the watch for dangers that might happen. They had to stay awake and then give warning of any impending nature.
Similarly, Habakkuk was assigned as a "spiritual" watchman, to give warning to anything that would endanger the Israelites. Another spiritual watchman was Ezekiel which was recorded at Ezekiel 3:17 "I appoint you a watchman to the house of Israel"
