He didn't. His very first car was the Quadricycle. He then built several models starting with the Model A, B, etc and finally the Model T in 1908. He then again called another model the Model A in 1928. He used letter designations for his cars until much later on.

He then built a race car in 1901. The Henry Ford company was then founded in He then founded the Henry Ford Company in 1901 which later became Cadillac. He then founded Ford Motor Company in 1903 and built the original Model A (not to be confused with the later Model A built in 1927.
