JLS called themselves JLS because their origianal name was UFO "Unique Famous Outrageous" but as UFO was already taken by a rock band Louis Walsh advised them to come up with a new and improved name, which happens to be JLS the name was actually thought up by Marvin Humes' Ex-girlfriend Jamie Jay who suggested the name JLS which means "Jack The Lad Swing". she suggested the name because she said as they are 4 "Jack The Lads" and swing is an enormously popular genre of American music. The boys loved the name and the meaning behind it so went to Louis Walsh who also loved the Uniqueness of the name and meaning thereby it stuck.
