As far as anyone can tell, Jack The Ripper cut the throats of all of his victims first, before disembowling and mutililating them. This is what is called his MO or modis operandi, how he killed his victims. There is a very logical reason why the Ripper cut his victim's throats first. It left them unable to scream and call attention to the killer. It worked very well. For the most part, JTR worked in relative quiet.
Through the years there have been confessions in the crimes of Jack The Ripper. James Maybrick, a London buisness man, claimed to be the Ripper, killing prostitutes because his young wife took a lover. Dr. Thomas Neil Cream confessed with the words 'I am Jack The ....' as the trapdoor dropped and the noose snapped his neck. He was hung for murder by poison. Neither confessor proved to be the Ripper. If the real Ripper did confess to someone, they know how to keep a secret.

Jack's neck wound in the alternate "Lost" universe was eerily connected to a neck wound he sustained on the island in the series finale.
Jack
From what is left of evidence and the autopsy notes, the Ripper most likely cut the victim's throat from behind, cutting the neck from left to right. This made it impossible for her to scream and with her attacker behind her it made it very difficult to defend herself. At this point she was lowered to the ground and then, when she was completely helpless, her killer repeatedly stabbed her in the chest and abdomin, and before leaving her, she was disembowelled.

But seriously, Jack the Ripper (JR) is by far the most well known serial killer in the world. In fact, his "style" inspired many future serial killers. He distinctly targeted prostitutes, strangling them before cutting out some of their vital organs. Sometimes, he even took some with him. His "legacy" affected the world greatly, he even has his own field of study, ripperology, and his own magazine, The Ripperologist. Not bad for a psychotic serial killer with a serious fetish for internal organs. //There is much false information that has followed the Ripper case from its beginnings. The victims of the Ripper were never strangled. It is virtually impossible to kill a person by strangulation without breaking the hyoid bone located in the neck. None of the Ripper victims suffered a fractured hyoid bone nor was there any petechia noted on any of the bodies. Strangulation is just one of many 'truths' that have become prevailant in this case, but they simply are not a fact.//
