Caesar Augustus made a decree that all the world should be registered, a census should be taken throughout his empire. This census was to take place not at each person's place of residence, but, according to Jewish custom, at the town to which their family originally belonged. The decree of Augustus brought Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem at exactly the right time in order that the Messiah might be born there in fulfillment of prophecy - Micah 5:2.
The account is in Luke chapter 2:
Luke 2:1- 5 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.
The Romans were doing a census of the people, and everyone had to go to there original town or city, and Jesus family came from there.
Egypt.
He traveled from Nazareth to Bethlehem with Mary, where Jesus was born. From Bethlehem he took his family to Egypt. From Egypt they returned to Nazareth.
The magi traveled to Bethlehem because they wanted to go see Jesus, and bring him gifts, when he was born.

Matthew's Gospel: (1)magi came to worship the baby Jesus; (2) the young family fled from Bethlehem to Egypt for fear of King Herod; (3) Herod slaughtered the baby boys of Bethlehem; (4) after the death of Herod, Joseph, Mary and Jesus returned to go back to their home in Bethlehem but, being warned in a dream, turned aside and migrated to Nazareth in Galilee.Luke's Gospel: (1) poor shepherds came to worship the baby Jesus; (2) Jesus was circumcised after eight days; (3) when the days for Mary's purification were completed, the family went from Bethlehem to the Jerusalem Temple; (4) they then returned peacefully to their home in Nazareth.
He was born in Bethlehem, then his family traveled to Egypt (where he spent his early years), then his family returned to Nazareth (where they were originally from).
A:It is in Matthew's Gospel that Joseph and Mary were going to return to Bethlehem some time after the birth of Jesus. In Luke's Gospel, Joseph had no reason ever to go to Bethlehem again, and the gospel makes it plain that although the young family travelled from Nazareth to Jerusalem each year for the Passover, they never went to Bethlehem. Bethlehem, not Nazareth, was the home town of Joseph and Mary in Matthew's Gospel. They fled from Bethlehem to Egypt for fear of King Herod, who sought to have Jesus killed. After Herod had died, they began the return journey to their home in Bethlehem but, being warned in a dream, Joseph turned aside with his family and travelled to Galilee instead. There they settled in a city called Nazareth (Matthew 2:23).
O Little Town of BETHLEHEM was where Jesus was born. Bethlehem in Israel.
Bethlehem
The most practiced religion in Bethlehem at the time of Jesus' birth was Judaism. Bethlehem was a primarily Jewish town and part of the region of Judea, where Jewish religious practices and beliefs were prevalent. Jesus himself was born into a Jewish family and would have been raised in accordance with Jewish customs.
