Jesus was a Jew from birth and he also followed the law given by God to the Israelites by Moses. It was necessary that the Christ be born a Jew because of the promise that God made to Abraham stating that "In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice."(Gen 22:18)

It was also necessary that Jesus follow all the commandments given to Moses, and be sacrificed instead of the animals that were offered according to the law given to Moses, to save "all the nations" (quoting the forementioned bible verse).

So the Law given to Moses was a foreshadow of the things that Jesus accomplished in the cross for humanity. As the Apostle Paul said: "Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith." (Gal 3:24)

Jesus didn't came to abolish the Law that was given to the Jews but to accomplish it. So now it is still important to "obey the voice" of God and follow his commandments, but there is no need for the purification rituals that were written in the Law of Moses, because the sacrifice for our purification and salvation is already accomplished.
