Burial is the common thing to do with dead people.

AnswerFor three reasons:

1. He died a horrible death on the Cross. Rather than his body be left on the rubbish tipp for wild animals to eat (a common fate for crucified victims) his body was claimed by Joseph of Armathea (a friend and follower of Jesus) who wanted to give him a decent burial.

2. He had to be buried on the Friday after the crucifixion because no burials could take place on the Saturday as it was the Sabbath. Carrying a dead body was seen as 'work' and not allowed under strict Jewish law.

3. Without a tomb there could be no resurrection. Jesus claimed that he would rise fromm the dead on several occasions before his execution. However, the sight of the empty tomb on the Sunday morning was a great symbol of his conquering of death so that his subsequent apparances to his disciples had greater meaning.

It was one of the prophecies written and He had to fulfill all of them.

Also, the first inkling that the resurrection had taken place was the empty tomb. therefore the fact that the tomb was empty, the tomb clothes left where the body laid (as if the body passed right through them, and the visions of angels there were all highly significant and were indicative of his resurrection even before Jesus was sighted alive.

"He was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth." Isaiah 53:8,9.

he had unfinished business in Israel

Answer:

Jesus rose from the dead for a number of reasons.

First of all... He had to die!

"...the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness." (Heb.9:22 NIV)

The shedding of Jesus' [world-cleansing] "Divine Blood" was worth all the sacrifices in the past or future, once and for all, for the remission of the sins of the world.

"...now has He appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself. Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face Judgment, so Christ was once offered to take away the sins of many people; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring Salvation to those who are waiting for Him." (verses 26-28)

But Jesus also had to "rise from the dead" in order to [as stated above] "finish the business" He started by His "sin-remitting" death. For one thing... He also has to be "raised from the dead" in order that our sins may be remitted:

"...if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith... For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins." (I Cor.15:14-17 NIV)

Plus... as mentioned in the scripture, above, if Jesus is to appear the "SECOND TIME"... He must be raised from the dead and BE ALIVE to do that.

"...so in Christ all will be made ALIVE. But each in his own turn: Christ, the Firstfruits; then, WHEN HE COMES, those who belong to Him. Then the end will come, when He hands over the Kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all dominion, authority and power [the unfinished business He still has to do].

"For He must reign [and He has to BE ALIVE to do that] until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death." (verses 22-25)

Jesus' "death" didn't complete the plan of God. It just got it started. The Hope of the world is that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead. Because if He didn't... there is no Hope.
