Jesus was making a point to the Pharisaic Rabbis that the lives of people and the overall spirit of Divine Law was more important than the particular letter that would prevent healing on the Sabbath.

Of course, Rabbinic Law is quite clear that healing on the Sabbath is a permitted abrogation of the Sabbath rest, so it is dubious that the events went down how The Bible describes them in this regard.

Its the right thing to do. The Sabbath is from the mosaic law, a law for Jehovah's people when they were isolated (the nation of Israel). Now that his people are scattered out around the Earth and now Gentiles are also now being encouraged to serve God Jesus is bringing us a new law for us to follow.

It was to point out that man was not made for the Sabbath but that the Sabbath was made for man. It gives man a day of rest and to think about their creator. Also it was to point out that it is okay to do good on the Sabbath.

Referenced to in the Bible, only once. However in real life, he probably did it quite often much to the elders lament. He was a rebel, he worked in the spirit, not mans laws.

'Those are the days to come for healing, not on the Sabbath!' But Jesus answers: 'You bad men. Any one of you would untie your donkey and take it out for a drink on the Sabbath. So shouldn't this poor woman, who has been sick for 18 years, be healed on the Sabbath?' Jesus' answer makes these bad men ashamed. (Luke 13:10-17)
