Jesus was making a point to the Pharisaic Rabbis that the lives of people and the overall spirit of Divine Law was more important than the particular letter that would prevent healing on the Sabbath.
Of course, Rabbinic Law is quite clear that healing on the Sabbath is a permitted abrogation of the Sabbath rest, so it is dubious that the events went down how The Bible describes them in this regard.

∙ 7y agoIts the right thing to do. The Sabbath is from the mosaic law, a law for Jehovah's people when they were isolated (the nation of Israel). Now that his people are scattered out around the Earth and now Gentiles are also now being encouraged to serve God Jesus is bringing us a new law for us to follow.
