Jesus rebukes Peter in Mark 8:33, saying, "Get behind me Satan..." This is part of a small chiastic structure in which Peter had rebuked Jesus for saying openly that he would suffer and die and after three days rise again:

a. Peter affirms that Jesus is the Christ (Mark 8:29)
b. Jesus refers to his death and resurrection (8:31)
c. Peter rebukes Jesus (8:32)
c' Jesus rebukes Peter (8:33)
b' Jesus refers to death, the cross and life after death (8:34-37)
a' "Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me ..." (8:38)

In this structure, event a' is a reversal of Peter's affirmation of faith in Jesus (event a). The opening and closing events in this structure are also part of another, much larger parallel structure that encompasses the entire gospel, this time as pairs T and U. Just as in the above chiastic structure event a' is a reversal of event a, in the framework parallel structure Peter's denials of Jesus at event T' are a reversal of Peter's affirmation (here as event T). And remembering Jesus' warning in event U, "Whosoever shall be ashamed of me: of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed," Peter then wept (event U').

A' .The young man explains the departure of Jesus(16:6-8)

If Jesus spoke these words, it was a response to Peter's rebuke of him. However, we can see from the relationships of the above two structures that Jesus' rebuke, saying "Get behind me Satan," was part of a careful literary construct that calls into question whether Jesus ever rebuked Peter with these words.

The setting for this may also be found in Matthew 16:15-24. We find Peter to be an outspoken person and when Jesus asked His disciples, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter quickly and strongly said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God." This pleased Jesus and He complimented Peter which may have gone to his head as the next paragraph we find Peter rebuking Jesus for what He said about His upcoming scourging, ridicule, crucifixion, death and resurrection. Well Peter took Jesus aside and audaciously, presumptuously and yes, foolishly began to sternly correct Jesus.

The above setting leads to Jesus sternly rebuking Peter saying, "Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men (verse 23). You see Peter was depending upon human reasoning which was against God's divine plan. This human reasoning can also be called the way of ha Satan thus Jesus referring to Satan when addressing Peter.

Where is it that Jesus said I have been to and fro?

Job 1.7 The Lord said to Satan, "Where have you come from?"Satan answered the Lord, "From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it."

How could Jesus be tempted 3 times yet it Says after Satan tempted Him in All things he departed?

1) Satan said to Jesus, who was fasting, if you are hungry, turn the bread into stones. Jesus said man does not live by bread alone, but, by every word that comes from God. 2) Satan said to Jesus, why not throw yourself off a cliff and see if the angels will catch you? Jesus said not to put God to the test and force God to save you. 3) Satan then said that if Jesus were to worship him (the devil), then the devil would give all the kingdoms on Earth to rule. Jesus said, thou shall worship the Lord God, and no other than the Lord God. With that, the devil, Satan, departed. Jesus refused to do what the devil said, and the devil gave up trying to tempt Jesus.

Did Jesus believe in Satan?

Quite the opposite. Satan is a liar and murderer, therefore he is the exact opposite of "the truth and the life" which Jesus said of himself. Christ is the life; Satan is a murderer -one who takes away life. It should be clear then that Satan is the exact opposite of God and Jesus Christ in his intents, motivation and character. Lastly, Jesus casts out evil demons/spirits and said this:Matthew 12:25-27New International Version (NIV)25 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? 27 And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges.

Did Satan ever try to tempt Jesus again?

Answer:Yes he did, while in a desert the Satan was waiting for him he tried to tempt him to prove he was the Lord, disobey God, etc. Nevertheless he failed.Answer:Yes, many times... but these were more subtle and indirect.Much of the time Satan tempted Him through the Pharisees and other leaders and judges among the Jews who constantly tried to trap Him or trip Him up, but:"...Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why temptMe, ye hypocrites?" (Matt.22:18)"...He, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt Me?" (Mark 12:15)Then, there is the famous rebuke of Peter, who foolishly assayed to dissuade Him from His imminent crucifixion:"...He (Jesus) turned, and said unto Peter, GET THEE BEHIND ME, SATAN: thou art an offence unto Me..." (Matt.16:23).Jesus was in a constant state of "overcoming" the temptations of Satan... as well as the natural pulls of the flesh.

Where in the Bible does Jesus say do as you do?

The Bible doesn't seem to record Jesus saying the exact phrase, "do as you do." This is close, however, and may be what you have in mind:John 13:27 - Now after the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Then Jesus said to him, "What you do, do quickly." [NKJV]

Were the twelve apostles employed?

They had jobs before they started to follow Jesus. But when Jesus came to them and said to follow Him, they left everything behind. Being Jesus' disciple was their job.

What do Christians believe the source of suffering to be?

Jesus said that Satan was a murderer from the beginning and abode not in the truth, for the truth is nit in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own. For he is a liar and the father of it. So sin brought death, and Satan brought sin. Jesus preaches as much about/against the devil as he does anything else.

Is Satan powerful as jesus?

No. Jesus is God. This is evidenced in the verses John 10:30-33 "I and the Father are one." The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. Jesus answered them, "I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?" The Jews answered Him, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God." Then the question might arise if Satan is as powerful as God. See these verses Job 1:12 Then the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him." So Satan departed from the presence of the LORD. and also Job 2:6 So the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, he is in your power, only spare his life." God sets boundaries for Satan, and Satan couldn't go beyond those boundaries.

Why did satin get sent to hell?

Satan didn't exactly get sent to hell, he chose to be alienated from God, of his own free will, and "fell from heaven" Luke 10:18 [Jesus said] And he said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven." He went to hell because he chose not to serve God.

What is the Christian Bible Scripture that tells of Satan's fall from Heaven?

Isaiah 14:12-28 and Ezekiel 28 speak of the fall of Satan which Jesus was referring to here:Luke 10:18New King James Version (NKJV) 18 And He said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.

What are some Catholic spiritual beliefs?

Belief in the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit). Jesus was sent to Earth by the Father to take on the sins of the world for us and to teach us how we should live so we could one day be with God. Jesus said "I am the way the Truth and the Life. No one goes to the father except through me". When he was to be taken away for crucifiction he said the prince of this world comes (satan). Jesus said "My Kingdom is not of this world". This world is evil and we are to be vigilant not to fall into the traps of satan's temptations and be separated from God.
