Christianity WILL cause division. Expect it.
Reading AROUND the questioned verse is ALWAYS important for getting the meaning clarified. The scripture you site is from Matthew 10:32-39, where Jesus says:
"Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. "But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven. "Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. "For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man's enemies will be the members of his household. . "He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. "And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. "He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it.(NAS) (Luke 12:51-53)
Here Jesus is telling people that becoming a Christian will not be easy and will cause divisions. That people around them will not necessarily understand what they're doing and will often not be happy about it. Making the choice to become a true Christian follower of Jesus will make a person the object of ridicule and attack, even from their own family. " He was saying that this is how it is going to be. We have been forewarned.(John 16:3)
Becoming a true Christian UNITES all fellow Christians together in a very strong bond, (1 Corinthians 1:10)(John 17:20-23; Galatians 3:28), but can often strain and break ties with those around us who do NOT respect that stand(1 Peter 4:4)(Jude 10). Our love for God and his son must be strong enough to endure this test of faith(Luke 6:22, 23)
and trust that God will strengthen us to endure whatever comes our way, and handle the situation the best way possible.(Philippians 4:13)(Matthew 6:27+33)(2 Peter 3:3+4)(Matthew 10:16-20)(Matthew 24:9,13,14)(John 16:1-4)(Matthew 5:11+12)
Matt.10 [34] Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. Luke.12 [51] Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
No paul came much later. After the death of Christ.
In the King James versionthe phrase - peace be unto you - appears 4 timesLuk 24:36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.Joh 20:19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.Joh 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.Joh 20:26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
If it is an opinion question then he was peaceful because there is no record or mention in any scriptures that he was violent, cruel or filled with anger. All actions recorded or described in scriptures project Him as a peaceful human manifestation of the Holy spirit. The following verses have been mis interpreted to view Jesus as violent;Matthew 10:34, Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. Luke 22:36, He that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.God did not want man to think that all evil done by man will be effaced by God.It is man who has to efface it. Jesus did not come to redeem man as God but as human manifestation of the Holy spirit to redeem man from evil and take the sufferings upon Himself for He knew that men did not know what they were doing and save those who believed in Him..
You may be talking about Samson who killed 1000 Philistines with the jawbone of an ass, and when he got thirsty after his efforts, God gave him water from a hollow in the jawbone. You can read about it in the book of Judges Ch.15 & vs,15 to 19. So the answer to your question is; God was the jawbone provider. Sometimes the Bible appears "inflammatory or offensive" when some parts are read alone. I cannot improve on this answer - I have only recounted a Bible story. Jesus himself said: "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword." (Matthew 10:34)
jesus send me on a mission
There has long been an urban myth that God will send Jesus in 2012 to bring peace and war to earth. As that time draws close, is 2060 the new 2012?AnswerThe Bible clearly states that it is not possible to know the exact time of Christ's return. Therefore it is not possible to state an exact year.
you have to have a friend send it to you
Yes, they really do send blunt sword-like objects down their throats.
Jesus has a question, and it goes like this; who can I send, on whom can I depend? Who will be my witness, tell the world that God is love? Won't you come along my friend? Jesus her am I, send me. Jesus here am I send me. I will lift up my life, always serving thee, Jesus her am I send me.
Yes John did send his followers to Jesus to find out if Jesus was the messiah.
Jesus came into the world to save mankind from their sins. As men refused to listen and repent to the prophets of old . God had to send his only son Jeus to die on the cross and save the world from sin.
