Because men have a choice as to "which master he will serve."

"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." [Strong's Definitions -- 'mammonas: of Aramaic origin (confidence, i.e. wealth, personified); mammonas, i.e. avarice (deified)] (Matt.6:24)

The Bible is very specific as to man's "slavery" to sin [disobedience to the laws of God, -- I John 3:4; or the "breaking of His Ten Commandments"], which is punishable by death.

"For the wages of SIN is DEATH..." (Rom.6:23).

The Bible reveals two basic ways for men to live: God's way [the way He commands through His law; to love, honor, respect and revere Him first and our fellowman second]... or the ways of the "god of this world," which is the most appealing way to our physical, fleshly existence [selfishly, in a constant mode of self-gratification of the five physical human senses], which is the opposite of God's way -- sin.

"...Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin IS THE SERVANT OF SIN." (John 8:34)

Therefore does Jesus speak of "slavery"... and our CHOICE of MASTER.

"If any man SERVE ME, let him FOLLOW ME; and where I am, there shall also My servant be: if any man SERVE ME, him will My Father HONOUR." (John 12:26)

The master of most men [mankind's god] which man chose to obey in the beginning, Satan the Devil, reveals himself, to those with the eyes to see, through the "works of man" -- THIS WORLD WE HAVE CREATED FOR OURSELVES! Filled with hatreds of all kinds, divisive false religions, starvation, oppression, terror, wars, death, misery and suffering throughout.

But, man's Creator offers His creation an option -- A WAY TO CHANGE MASTERS.

A way to CHANGE OUR WAYS from the god of this world, to the ways of God. To CHOSE WHOSE SERVANT WE WILL BE:

"This is My Commandment, THAT YE LOVE ONE ANOTHER, AS I HAVE LOVED YOU. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

"YE ARE MY FRIENDS, IF YE DO WHATSOEVER I COMMAND YOU.

"Henceforth I CALL YOU NOT SERVANTS; for the servant knoweth not what his Lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of My Father I have made known unto you.

"Ye have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in My name, He may give it you.

"These things I command you, THAT YE LOVE ONE ANOTHER.

"If the world hate you, ye know that IT HATED ME BEFORE IT HATED YOU. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but BECAUSE YE ARE NOT OF THE WORLD, BUT I HAVE CHOSEN YOU OUT OF THE WORLD, THEREFORE THE WORLD HATETH YOU." (John 15:12-19)

There are two basic ways to live in this world: the "GET" way... or the "GIVE" way, which are Satan's way and God's way, respectively.

An overview look at the way the world is illustrates Satan's way.

There isn't much love out there. It's there... but not in any great [or great enough] quantity. Right now, the name of Jesus Christ is most generally hated in the world... and His Word, the Bible, is most generally ignored and/or maligned as superstition or myth or erroneous "Jewish" history.

God is calling some out of the world to "change their Master." Faith and belief in Jesus Christ [in accordance with the Bible] PURCHASES us from the other master. And our works take a different direction.

God's servants serve God and mankind... not themselves. They are "reborn" [reconceived]... and they return to the "innocence" of babes in the eyes of God:

"...I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast REVEALED THEM UNTO BABES." (Matt.11:25)

They begin to retrain, to serve under their new Master.

"...no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal Him.

"COME UNTO ME, ALL YE THAT LABOUR AND ARE HEAVY LADEN, AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST. TAKE MY YOKE UPON YOU, AND LEARN OF ME; FOR I AM MEEK AND LOWLY IN HEART: AND YE SHALL FIND REST UNTO YOUR SOULS.

"FOR MY YOKE IS EASY, AND MY BURDEN IS LIGHT." (Matt.11:27-30)

All of mankind is in slavery to sin -- disobedience to the Commandments [laws] of God.

But our Creator is working to save man from his present master... one "babe" at a time.

"And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have BROUGHT THEE OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT [sin], out of the HOUSE OF BONDAGE [slavery].

"THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME..." (Ex.20:1-3).

It's all about slavery... and which master we choose to serve. The Master of Life... or the master of death.
