Why did Jesus teaching upset some people?

Jesus' teachings exposed how the word of God had been superimposed over time by the legalistic teachings and rules of man. Jesus restored the original meaning and intentions of God, exposing in the process the hypocrisy of the religious leaders of the day. To some unbelievers, it is offensive because it similarly exposes their inner hypocrisy and hidden guilt.

Jesus also claimed outright to be God himself, which offended the Jews since they did not recognize the signs that he was indeed God incarnate, and thus saw His words as blasphemous.

Back in those days, there was the Main church, and leading that church were priests. Priests that considered themselves the Divine Interpreters of God. They had convinced the rest of the people of this too. So when Jesus came along and started teaching things that contradicted what the church taught. This made the Church angry and that was why Jesus was hung on the cross. The church concidered what Jesus was teaching to be blasphemy.

Think about it.

1. He called himself God.

2. He said he was the son of God.

3. He was teaching things that did not agree with the modern Church.

4. He taught people things about the Church that the Church had worked hard to keep covered up.

Therefore, Jesus' teachings were pretty much almost the opposite of what the Church taught. And that is why so many were angry at him for his teachings.
