Jesus' teachings exposed how the word of God had been superimposed over time by the legalistic teachings and rules of man. Jesus restored the original meaning and intentions of God, exposing in the process the hypocrisy of the religious leaders of the day. To some unbelievers, it is offensive because it similarly exposes their inner hypocrisy and hidden guilt.
