Leif discovered North America, though really he was following a course set by an Icelander. Leif did create a settlement in North America so many say he discovered it. After all the first guy felt it was too risky to go ashore, so he was just the first recorded European to see North America, not really the same as landing and "discovering". He also discovered a stranded ship and rescued its crew of 14 people.

For example it does not appear to be positive that the people in a settlement founded by Leif were exterminated by locals (which also occurred in Greenland) but if you viewed it from the point of view of those doing the killing it could be. For them they might see a little genocide as a good thing since it forestalled the arrival of other Europeans for almost 500 years. So it is for most of the facts from history.
