Because he heard the house, Thrushcross Grange, was available for renting. The owner of said house was Heathcliff, who lived at Wuthering Heights. He went to Wuthering Heights first (braving a very bad snow storm) to converse with the owner about renting the place, and stayed overnight due to the snow.
lockwoods role is to intoduce all the main characters. For example we meet heathcliff haerton joesph Cathy and Nelly all within 3 chapters. His role also is 2 allow Nelly to tell her narrative when lockwood leaves for 6 months we don't know what happens until he returns =)
The first night Lockwood spends at Wuthering Heights he experiences a "nightmare."
Lockwood chooses Catherine Earnshaw's old room in which to sleep. He looks at the desk which has the names, "Catherine Earnshaw," "Catherine Heathclif," and "Catherine Linton" inscribed. (Catherine's different names in her life, and when read backwards young Cathy's names in her life)
Lockwood later hears something from the window, and assumes branches from the tree. When he reaches out ice cold hands grab his hands. They pull him and the ghost yells "Let me in! Let me in!" This is the ghost of Catherine (the older one).
It is ambiguous whether this was Lockwoods' dream, or a true event.
Lockwood screams and runs from the room. Then, Heathclif scolds him for being in "that" room. Lockwood goes to find a new room.
His night is disturbing because his interaction with Catherine's ghost was frightening.
Because he was lonely and wanted to talk to someone. Also, because he wanted to spite Heathcliff and make him mad on purpose as a joke, since Heathcliff doesn't like to be social. It's kinda like a haha moment. Especially the last paragraph before the new chapter.
he felt more sociable than the people who lived in the house
a) he wanted her to marry his son
b) he was cruel and malicious
c) it would vex edgar
d) she was catherines daugher
I believe he visits Wuthering Heights because Heathcliff is leasing him Thrushcross Grange.
