During the Seven Year's War France lost most of its overseas treasure to Great Britain. The resulting ecomnomic damage almost destroyed the monarchy. However, some of the economic was repaired in the 1760's by the minister, the duc de Choiseul. Because Louis XIV and Louis XV spend way to much money and left a huge state debt. Louis XVI inherited that as he accessed the throne (a debt of 400 million livres!) In 1788 the French government went bankrupt.
Louis spent most of the government money on his own personal needs. His tax structure also caused many financial problems because he basically was exempting those who could afford the taxes from paying them and forcing those who couldn't to pay. In a ways this crippled the economy.
To avoid bankruptcy and to pay down the French National debt.
they ran out of money to help America win the Revolutionary War
by controlling trade routes and taxing merchants
Terry Fox tried to run across Canada to raise money for cancer
he raised 3.5 million dollars
He didn't. King Louis XVI and his wife Queen Marie Antoinette lost their monarchical power during the French Revolution. They inherited an enormous state debt (by Louis XIV and Louis XV). Also, Louis XVI was indecisive and not firm enough to rule. Radical financial reforms by Turgot and Malesherbes angered the nobles and were blocked by the parlements who insisted that the King did not have the legal right to levy new taxes. So Turgot was dismissed in 1776 and Malesherbes resigned in 1776 to be replaced by Jacques Necker. Necker supported the American Revolution, and proceeded with a policy of taking out large international loans instead of raising taxes. When this policy failed miserably, Louis dismissed him, and replaced him in 1783 with Charles Alexandre de Calonne, who increased public spending to 'buy' the country's way out of debt. Again this failed, so Louis convoked the Assembly of Notables in 1787 to discuss a revolutionary new fiscal reform proposed by Calonne. When the nobles were told the extent of the debt, they were shocked into rejecting the plan. This negative turn of events signaled to Louis that he had lost the ability to rule as an absolute monarch, and he fell into depression. The French didn't want to be ruled by monarchs anymore, but wanted to become a republic without "tyrannizing" monarchs that they thought spend all their tax money and wanted equality, and also no more nobility with all their benefits and privileges. The revolutionists captured King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, held them prisoners and eventually had them beheaded by a guillotine.
Because he was trying to give hope to people with cancer that he may raise enough money to find a cure.
by taxing property
No because they did not get anything from their money
the American government started taxing people in 1861, during the civil war. they started taxing people to raise money to buy supplies for the war.
yes it is sadly. :-(
They had to ask the states for money. Which didn't go over well with any of the states.
by controlling trade routes and taxing merchants
by taxing the colonists. for example, the sugar act, stamp act, and townshend act.
The king viewed the colonies as a source of money, therefore, taxing them to raise money for his wants and needs, he basically benefited in that way by keeping the American colonies.
Well England aka gret Britain had debt for the french and Indian war
Because the Ohio Legislature, in its wisdom, decided that taxing gas was the best way to raise money to fund the needs of the state.
yes, what else would they do. that's how we trade with other countries, build houses and much more.
In the Articles of Confederation, the procedure by which Congress was to raise funds was by taxing the states.
