Pierce was not nominated by his party for a second term. He was unpopular with the people because of the civil unrest in Kansas. He was taken from obscurity and made President because leaders in the party thought they could manipulate him. Also his wife hated Washington and cracked up when their son was killed right before he took office

Truman actually served two terms. He took over when Roosevelt died, and then was Re-elected after a newspaper printed that he lost the morning of his victory!
