Mark frequently stressed that Jesus instructed witnesses to his miracles to keep his true identity a secret. The demons always seemed to know who he really was, but not his disciples.
Dennis R MacDonald (The Homeric Epics and the Gospel of Mark) recently argued that this was the result of Homeric influence, with Jesus a counterpart to Odysseus, who also had to keep his identity secret. This is an interesting theory, but not yet widely accepted by scholars (assuming it ever will be).
Another possible reason could be that Mark needed to show why few people had ever heard of Jesus at the time he wrote his Gospel, even though Mark described so many great wonders and miracles Jesus performed in the recent past.
they were really the disciples of jesus. they just denied him in fear of being arrested because they were his disciples
Jesus' disciples
Mark portrayed the disciples as somewhat slow to understand Jesus' teachings and as lacking in faith at times. They often misunderstood Jesus' message and actions, leading to lessons and rebukes from Jesus. However, they eventually grew in their understanding and faith, becoming key figures in spreading the message of Jesus after his resurrection.
They all faithly remained Jesus disciples after his death.
In Mark's Gospel, the focus was on Jesus, with very little reason to portray God. However, Mark did portray God in the passages on the baptism of Jesus and the transfiguration. In Mark 1:11, there came a voice out of heaven, saying Thou art my beloved son in whom I am well pleased. In Mark 9:7, a cloud overshadowed the disciples and a voice came out of the cloud. So, when Mark had to portray God, it was as a voice out of heaven or out of a cloud.
The twelve disciples were chosen by Jesus to spread his teachings. They were known for their dedication, loyalty, and faith in Jesus. They were also diverse in backgrounds and personalities, yet united in their commitment to following Jesus.
Ruth, although an ancestor of Jesus, lived about 1000 years before Jesus and so she knew nothing about Jesus and could not portray Him as anything.
The disciples viewed Jesus as the Messiah; the son of God.
Why did Jesus call the disciples?Jesus called the disciples because He wanted followers. The disciples (Jesus' followers) set an example for people back in Biblical times. The disciples were very helpful (most of them anyways.)
