Best Answer

Medusa was once a beautiful lady, but evil. She tried to beat all the Gods and wanted to be the best at everything. No one could beat her.

So the Gods planned to make Medusa pay. They made her a fearful sight, with vipers instead of hair. Anyone who saw her was turned into stone.

Eventually a brave young soldier crept to Medusa in her cave. He held out a mirror and while Medusa was sleeping chopped off her head and put it in a goatskin bag. Since the head still had the ability to stun, he used it as a weapon till he gave it to Athena.

The soldier's name was Perseus.

Answer 2: The reason why she was punished was not that she excelled, but that she had sex with Poseidon in Athena's temple while being Athena's priestess. That made Athena very angry

She didn't have sex, she was raped.

First of all, Medusa is a gorgon, not a goegon. Medusa wasn't always an ugly monster. In fact, she was one of the most beautiful person in the world. Poseidon was in love with her and one day, Athena found them in her temple. She got mad and since she couldn't do anything to Poseidon, she turned Medusa into the ugly gorgon you have now.
