The reason why they fought each other is because Texas wanted to be independent from Mexico, because most of the Texans were Americans that moved. They revolted because Mexico only allowed them to be Catholic, and most of the settlers were Protestant.

Mexico eventually realized that the new settlers did not want to be subject to Mexican authority. the Spanish and Mexican governments invited U.S. settlers to move there to increase the province's population.
American settlers did not want to obey the laws. American settlers wanted slavery.
