Origionally, Miley Cyrus's character was going to be called Chloe Stewert (forgive my spelling - i dunno how to spell Stewart)! Anyway, since there were so many names; robbie ray, billy ray, Miley Cyrus, chloe stwert, Hannah Montana, they had to drop one! So they dropped the one that was easier to get rid of. Which, in this case, would be Chloe Stewert. So Miley Cyrus is Miley everywhere - except when she's Hannah Montana!

However, I'm not sure whether that was your qusetion, so, she didn't get change her name to her characters, it was her name first, the characters was then changed to her name (sorry if that's kind of confusing)! But I hope that helps!
