i think it was due to the tectonic plates which were pushed together coz of the strong force of lava and magma
Mount Teide erupted in 1706 due to the buildup of pressure within the volcano. This is the reason that volcanoes erupt in general.

if an active volcano has recently erupted (like Eyjafjallajokull,) then logically it should erupt again, in this case, but it is physically impossible to predict an eruption unless you are a psychic.

Mt. Etna is an active volcano. Those are dangerous to be around when they erupt.
