Its not just Muhammed who met opposition when they received divine revelation. Abraham < Moses. Jesus, they all met with opposition. It is a well accepted fact that people are always averse to discard the beliefs of their forefathers. In the case of Muhammed's people they simply could not imagine abandoning Idols. Also things like treating slaves with kindness, granting women rights, granting poor dues these were not things the people to Muhammad were willing to accept. Hence the opposition
