Depending on what kind of lip ring you are wearing, will sometimes vary the affect of the hole size. Be especially sure to properly treat it, and make sure you don't fool around with it too much. yes it will after a while i had the bottom side of my lip pierced and re pierced about four times now, at first it left a dark mark were the piercing used to be but now its just a small hole...barley noticeable.

It is better to start off with a normal piercing (just like spikes), since your lip will firstly try to heal and will get bigger. If you start off with a ring there's a risk that when you lip get bigger the ring will stuck in it since the lip will have limited space to expand. It is recommended to switch to the ring a month after you started using the piercing.

I have personally done this before, i got my right lip piercing re-pierced in the exact same spot and no it doesn't hurt, it feels the same as getting your first lip piercing.

you don't need to. you just take the piercing out and it closes. it might take awhile but eventually the hole will close

Whenever you go in for a Monroe piercing, the piercer will take a needle, usually either a 18-16 gauge, and pierce your lip with that. It doesn't leave a big hole at all. But, if you want to gauge your Monroe, then you could have the piercer pierce with a bigger gauged needle, or just gauge it out yourself.
