Nur Jahan married her daughter Ladli Begum (daughter by her first husband Sher Afghan) to Jahangir's son Shahryar. Thats why she wanted to place her son-in-law on the throne.
After the death of Jahangir, Shahryar proclaimed himself as Emperor at the instigation of Nur Jahan. But Shahryar was defeated by Asaf Khan's forces and Shah Jahan ascended the throne. Khusrau died of colic pains as per the official records, but it is suspected that he was murdered on the orders of Shah Jahan.
Shah Jahan was the third son of Jahangir. Jahangir's eldest sons Khusrau and Parveiz had died before their father. After Jahangir's death, Empress Nur Jahan wished to place her son-in-law Shahryar on the throne. But Nur Jahan's brother and wazir of the Kingdom, Asaf Khan, helped Shah Jahan to ascend the throne after defeating Shahryar.
Jahangir's son Prince Shahryar was the son-in-law of Nur jahan. Prince Shahryar was the husband of Nur Jahan's daughter (by her first husband) Ladli Begum.
Ladli Begum was the daughter of Nur Jahan by her first husband Sher Afghan. Ladli Begum was married to Jahangir's son Prince Shahryar in 1621.
Emperor Jahangir had five sons: Khusrau by Shah Begum, Parveiz by Sahibi Jamal, Khurram (Later Shah Jahan) by Jodh Bai, Shahryar & Jahandar. His two daughters were Sultan-un-nisa begum by Shah Begum and Bihar Banu Begum by Karamsi. Jahangir was succeeded by his third son Shah Jahan.
Mihr-un-nissa was the real name of Mughal Empress Nur Jahan. Jahangir married Nur Jahan in 1611. She soon become his chief wife and gradually, the virtual ruler of the Kingdom. She had coins struck in her name. The royal firmans also bore her signature. She wished her son-in-law Shahryar (youngest son of Jahangir) to succeed Jahangir. Shah Jahan rebelled, however, did not succeed. As a result of Shah Jahan's rebellion, Mughals lost Kandahar to Persia. Later, Mahabat Khan, one of his generals, also rebelled against Jahangir, but Nur Jahan successfully suppressed Mahabat's revolt. After the death of Jahangir Shah Jahan ascended the throne after defeating Shahryar. Thus Nur Jahan lost her power and influence.
Shah Jahan ascended the throne at Lahore on 30 December 1627. He ruled till 1658.
Shah Jahan was Jehangir's son and his actual name was prince Khurram, He waged war against his father for ascension to throne but was defeated by his fathers forces. However, after Jahangir's death Shah Jahan ascended to throne and was assumed his more famous name of Shah Jahan.
Shah Jahan had two sisters namely, Sultan-n-nisa begum and Bihar Banu Begum. His four brothers were Khusrau, Parveiz, Jahandar and Shahryar.
Shah Jahan's favorite son was Dara Shikoh, who was seen as his heir apparent. Dara Shikoh was known for his interest in arts, culture, and interfaith dialogue. However, following a succession struggle, Shah Jahan's third son, Aurangzeb, emerged victorious and took the throne.

Upon Shah Jahan's accession to the throne, Nur Jahan was ordered to retire. She was allowed a pension of two lacs per annum.
