Richard Angel, the Long Island, NY nurse had what is known as Munchausen by proxy. In short, he drugged patients to create emergencies so he could resusitate them and be a hero. Munchausen was named after Baron Von Munchausen who diagnosed the condition as a person that hurts themselves for attention. The 'by proxy' means to hurt another to gain attention. Little was known about this syndrom that usually afflicts a person in a 'caregiver' position such as mothers or nurses.
