Roald Dahl did not begin writing until after his time in World War I. He was approached by C.S. Forester, a famous author who was collecting stories of war heroes as part of a series for the Saturday Evening Post. When Dahl gave Forester his story in written form, Forester replied that Dahl was a natural writer; Forester submitted Dahl's story, "A Piece of Cake", without edit to the Post. Dahl's personal account of his initiation into writing can be found in his short story "A Lucky Break".
Roald Dahl did not write any books about Olivia Dahl, his daughter. However, he did dedicate the book "The BFG" to her.
Roald Dahl wrote the poem "Television" in 1982.
