Initially, Julius Caesar invaded Britain in order to punish some tribes for sending help to the Gauls. Some Romans stayed and Britains's mining resources were noted. Claudius needed some sort of military action so he launched his invasion of an almost conquered Britain to impress the folks back home. As you can see, there were numerous reasons for Rome to want to secure Britain, not the least of them to prevent raids on their Gaulic provinces.
