Ruth was a superlative servant of God. Naomi and her family had sojourned in Moab during a famine. Ruth, a Moabitess, became Naomi's daughter-in-law. She had a long stretch of time during which she observed Naomi's righteousness, and she (Ruth) became convinced that she must serve the One God and abandon her former idolatry. She went on to become so righteous that God allowed her to become the ancestress of King David.

Ruth wasn't so much serving God, but protecting and helping Naomi. After her husband died and Naomi's husband had died they were left alone. Naomi decided to return to her native land of Bethlehem. After they arrived Ruth went to work in the fields cutting the sheaf of wheat so they could eat. While working in the field one day, a local leader saw her asking about her and was told her story of how she came there with Naomi. He made her stop working and provided food for her and Naomi. Ruth became one of the early Jewish converts when she left Moab with Naomi.

Ruth put her faith in the God of Israel and left idols and her nation behind to live in Israel. It is difficult to 'make' a demonstration of faith - it happens naturally.

The teachings and faith of Catholicism?

The basic teachings and faith of Catholicism is that one must accept Our Blessed Lord as one's Savior and then walk in His footsteps. These are spelled out in the New Testament and the Catechism of the Catholic Church (which you can get on Amazon.com (see link below). The Old Testament also contains teachings and faith, but in a more veiled and incomplete manner.
