the Virginia Company hope to accomplish by sending ships to America
=Although, Ferdinand Magellan was killed in the Philippine Islands along with most of his crew, 17 of around 200 crew members survived and safely returned to Spain. They returned on the Victoria, one of the five ships used to circumnavigate the Earth.=
Five ships commanded by Ferdinand Magellan left Spain and sailed southeast. They discovered a passage through the islands at the southern tip of South America, which is now called the Straits of Magellan. One ship was destroyed, and one returned to Spain. The remaining three ships then sailed northwest across the Pacific Ocean, and kept sailing west. They sailed past many islands, always going mostly West. Magellan himself was killed in what were later named the Philippine Islands in the Battle of Mactan. The survivors continued west across the Indian Ocean and around the Cape of Good Hope, and back to Spain. One ship out of five reached Spain, taking 3 years to complete the voyage.
The King and Queen wouldn't help him with his voyage so he turned to Spain.
Yes. the king of Spain did
The US and Spain were at War and the Spanish Navy's Philippine Squadron was based in Manila. He sought out the enemy and destroyed it, which is exactly what he was ordered to do.
Magellan had 5 ships when he came but some people said it is 21.
Get a lighthouse
Tuataras live in small caves on islands near New Zealand. During the days of sailing ships, rats lived aboard sailing ships. The rats escaped from some of those ships and landed on some of those islands. They ate the tuataras on those islands. That reduced the number of islands with tuataras.
I suppose Spain got to name them because Queen Isabella of Spain supplied the three ships and a crew.
Spain mostly uses ships and one of the exports of Spain is olive oil.
