Well personally i don't think it looks the way it was supposed to but the Aztecs thought it looked like an eagle eating a snake and sitting on a tree branch. Edit- That is not what the land looked like, the first Aztec people were looking for an eagle that was holding a snake in it's talons and sitting on a cactus. When they found that they knew that they were supposed to stay in the land where they found the sign.
