Giesel used the pseudonym, "Dr.Seuss" partially because his father wanted him to become a man with that title, "Dr." So when Giesel became successful with his work as an author, he gave himself that name.

Theodor Geisel began using the pen name "Dr. Seuss" because he wanted to keep writing Children's Books while still pursuing a career in advertising and maintaining the illusion of professionalism; he added "Dr." to his mother's maiden name "Seuss" as a way to create a playful alter ego.
